How to manifest for beginners is your guide to creating the life that you want.
When I first heard of the law of attraction, via the movie The Secret, I thought it was all woo-woo…but with a hint of truth. Enough of a hint that I did not dismiss it outright.
Instead, I kept it on the back burner of my mind. And today, I will share how manifesting has impacted my life.

What Is Manifestation?
When I had what amounted to a complete mental breakdown a few years ago, I researched ways to feel better. Law of attraction topics kept coming up: manifesting, journaling, vision boards, affirmations, and more.
This post is all about what I’ve learned and how it has helped me. And can help you too, with or without the breakdown 😉
Manifestation is the deliberate action of consciously creating your reality.
Before you click the little “x” on this post, let me explain.
Have you ever woke up in a bad mood?
Starting your day this way can spiral pretty quickly. Nothing but red lights. No good parking spots. Huge line in the cafeteria that wastes your break time.
Now contrast that with waking up in a really good mood.
When you wake up in a positive mood, things ‘just seem’ to go your way.
I’ve been able to manifest not only all green lights on my way to work, but also kick-ass parking spots…as a beginner manifestor!
With manifesting, you are putting yourself into a positive vibration as often as possible.
And as you focus on what you want, you attract situations and people that can help you get what you want.
Think about it.
If you focus on getting a new car, your first task should be to research which car you really want. Don’t just pick any car…find the right car for you.
Go to a dealership and sit inside your dream car.
Is your dream car as dreamy as you want?
Or, maybe once you’ve done a test drive you may realize that you want something totally different.
Conscious manifesting is not about wishing for a cool sports car. It’s about deciding what you really, really want and attracting it into your life.
The act of thinking about things you want and then researching them to verify how you will feel when you have that item is critical.
You may be thinking “manifesting sounds like a lot of work”.
But is it?
For a major item, like a new car, you only have to do that once in while. For a new home, you likely only have to do it once. If you’ve never thought that deeply about manifesting, I’ve got tools to help you.
I learned how to manifest as a beginner, and you can too.
Today we will set up some systems to help you create a routine that encourages conscious manifesting…a morning routine.
Why morning?
Because it’s awesome to wake up with hope and purpose, knowing that your dreams are about to come true.
Creating A Morning Manifestation Routine
If you have ever created a vision board, written down a list of things you want to do, or daydreamed about your dream life, you already have the building blocks of using the law of attraction.
Let’s take it one step further by adding tools to help you manifest.
The law of attraction and manifesting what you always dreamed of can seem overwhelming, so it helps to simplify it by separating the actions and activities into different habits or routines throughout the day.
By adding it to a morning routine, you give yourself a chance to dedicate just a few minutes every morning to your manifesting journey and get into the right headspace for the rest of the day.
What is the Law of Attraction?
The law of attraction is the universal law that says “like attracts like”, meaning what you think about and focus on is what will come to you.
The caveat is that “like” does not mean a casual attraction. In LOA, you need to have a deep bond with those high ticket items.
And you want to connect how it will feel to have an item that you are manifesting.
To use the law of attraction to manifest what you want, you need high vibrations and positive energy.
The more you can visualize and say exactly what you want and actually feel it, the more it will be attracted to you.
This takes time and some practice.
Why a Morning Routine?
The reason we recommend a morning routine for your law of attraction is because it helps to develop habits for manifesting. But it also because it starts your day off in a mindset of positivity and abundance.
Here are some of the activities you can add to your morning law of attraction routine.
Start with Gratitude
It is always a good idea to start your morning by writing down what you are grateful for.
This is recommended to do before you begin scripting or visualizing what you want. By expressing gratitude, you are showing the universe and yourself that you are blessed in your life, and it puts you into a positive mindset.
The more you can be grateful for right now, the more you can achieve in your life.
If you are constantly thinking negatively about what you don’t have yet, it is nearly impossible to manifest more good in your life.
Simple Tips for Keeping a Gratitude Journal
If you have never had a gratitude journal before, or had trouble sticking with the habit, here are a few simple tips to help get you started.
Keep it Short and Sweet – Make sure you are not attempting to write full paragraphs for each thing you are grateful for, unless you want to. Instead, just write a list of what you are grateful for that morning, with a few words on each line so you know what you are referring to.
Use a Separate Journal for Gratitude – It can help to have a journal dedicated only to your daily gratitude practice, especially if you use a journal for manifesting. It helps to keep your mind focused on what you are trying to write, whether it is gratitude or scripting.
Get Into a Positive Mindset – When you are writing down what you are grateful for, you want to get into a place where you feel positive, optimistic, and, of course, grateful. It lets you see that although you have dreams and plans for your life, there is so much to be thankful for right in this moment.
If you would like a deeper understanding of the benefits of a daily gratitude practice, read my post Why Gratitude is Important to a Successful Life.
Gratitude creates a subtle shift in your thinking, from “I wish I had…” to “It is on its way to me now!”. See the difference?
Morning Manifestation Meditation
One more thing that can be good to do before you actually get into the manifesting part of your morning routine is to do a few minutes of meditation.
With meditation, you are also going to improve your mindset first thing in the morning. It gives you some time to be with your thoughts and get rid of anything causing you stress.
By putting all that aside, it will make it much easier to script and do your visualization practice in the morning.
Benefits of Morning Meditation
Not sure yet about meditating in the morning as part of your law of attraction morning routine? Here are some ways you can benefit from this practice.
You set the tone for the day – This is not only important for the law of attraction, but your health and wellness in general.
Setting the tone for the day starts in the very first few minutes after waking up.
If you start stressing right away, and immediately check your email or start working, that is going ot set your tone. You will end up having an overly stressed, anxious day.
But if you can start with a few minutes of meditation, suddenly you are calm and mindful.
It helps you to get into the right mindset for manifesting – The reason it can be good to do before you start your manifestation routine is because you get into a positive, hopeful, and confident mindset.
Similar to setting the tone for the day, meditation helps you to maintain that calm, positive mindset that helps tremendously with the law of attraction.
Remember you want to raise your vibrations and have positive energy for the law of attraction to work, and this all comes down to your mindset.
You can release stress, anxiety, and worry – It is really hard to properly visualize and manifest what you want when you have a cloud of stress and worry over your thoughts.
If you tend to be anxious and struggle with over-worrying, then meditation is for you.
It is a great way to build the foundation for being more mindful – Mindfulness is a wonderful way to stay in the moment throughout the day and can help wonderfully with your manifesting.
Mindfulness allows you to visualize, be positive, use affirmations, and be in the moment.
Ways to Meditate
It’s okay if you have never meditated before. It seems overwhelming and a little intimidating in the beginning, but just a few minutes a day will allow you to get the practice you need.
Here are a few different ways you can start meditating in the morning:
Guided Meditation – Your first option is guided meditation, which is a way to listen to someone else guide you through the process.
This is great for beginners, because all you have to do is sit quietly and close your eyes, letting the voice of the guided meditation tell you what to do or think about.
Use an App – An even easier option might be with an app, some of which give you tips to read for meditating, while others have audio or video to help with guided meditations.
Some popular apps for meditation include:
- Headspace (a top rated app)
- Mindfulness
- Calm. This is also a TV app available on some cable/satellite packages, and is helpful for visualizing ‘from the sofa’.
Simple Breathing Technique – For a quick morning meditation practice, try doing a simple breathing technique. It just involves focusing on your breathing and your breathing alone, shutting out all other thoughts.
Sit quietly with your eyes closed, and take a deep breath. Notice how it feels when you inhale your breath, hold it for a few seconds, then exhale. You should only be concentrating on your breaths and nothing else.
You can repeat this as many times as necessary to reach a calm state.
And if you had a ‘rough’ day, use it to clear your mind before you go to sleep.
Scripting and Journaling To Manifest
Let’s start manifesting!
The first thing that can be really powerful in the morning for your law of attraction routine is to do scripting. If you have ever read about the law of attraction, you have probably heard of what scripting is.
If you have never done journaling, just know that it is a beneficial way to declutter your mind and get negative thoughts out of your head and onto paper.
But let’s have a quick overview.
Scripting is a way to write what you want or where you want to be, but in present tense.
Instead of writing about how you want to buy a house someday, you visualize instead your dream house, then write down what it is like having your house, as if you already bought it.
How Scripting Works
When you script in your journal, you are not going to write about what you want as if it hasn’t happened yet, but instead get into the place of already having it.
Here is what it might look like:
Say for example you are manifesting money and success.
You want to think about how you see yourself becoming successful or earning more money, how that would feel, and what you might do when you reach the abundance you are searching for.
You then take that vision and put it down on paper, with as many details as possible.
- Write down the amount of money that is currently in your bank account within your vision
- Visualize your lifestyle…vacations, cars, toys, hobbies, dining choices etc.
- Imagine what you would buy and what your lifestyle would be.
How would it FEEL? The way it feels is one of the most important aspects to scripting.
Most people are motivated to succeed in some way based on how they want to feel, such as:
- Freedom
- Safety
- Powerful/Empowered
- Supported
- Loved
Think about how you want to feel, or create a “word of the year” that you want to attain. Mine always seems to be related to feeling “free”, as in no longer tied to a schedule (free of work) or released from worrying about money.
If you are not sure how you want to feel:
Think about negative feelings you have about your life and what the opposite of that might be. For me, I felt trapped and tied to my job, so the opposite feeling, for me, is freedom.
Try Googling “the opposite of…” and adding your current less-than-optimal feeling.
Watch for links to online dictionary sites and poke around looking for your ideal words to focus on.
Write down “why” you feel the way you do, for example:
- “I am so relaxed on my 3 week vacation away from…”
- “My life is so much more exciting now that money comes easily to me”
Make sure you are writing in present tense, with only “I am” or other positive-thinking wording.
Instead of “I want to be rich and successful”, you would write “I am rich and successful”.
You don’t write “I can’t wait to buy my dream house”, but instead write “I am so grateful to have my dream house”.
Work on dreaming about the end result…how you will feel when you “have it all”.
Do not worry about the details of how you will get there because you do not want to tie the hands of God/universe/Spirit; instead, just focus on how you will feel when you get it.
Create a List of What You Want to Manifest
Before you start scripting, it can help to have a list of what exactly you are trying to manifest.
This is going to help with visualization, and gives you an idea of what is most important to you. Go in order of what comes to your mind first, then those ideas might turn into other ones.
Keep this list in your journal and in a place that is easy to grab whenever you need it.
How Often to do Scripting
Should you do scripting every morning? This is completely up to you, but it is definitely helpful if you want to get into the manifesting mindset for the day.
Remember that scripting doesn’t have to be long. Some scripting is done once because you write out several detailed pages.
Others are done more on a daily basis during your routine, and nothing more than single scene of what you’re trying to manifest.
There is no right or wrong way to go when it comes to the frequency of scripting.
Visualization with Your Vision Board
Visualization is very similar to scripting, and some people prefer to do this technique before they begin scripting.
Others find it helpful to do this by looking at their vision board. I have a blog post on creating a vision board, which may help you.
It can help get you into the dream you want by looking at your vision board, then really trying to feel what it will be like when you achieve everything you hope to manifest into your life.
Personally, I like to watch 4k videos of places I want to visit.
I sit back and kind of squint my eyes and pretend that I am already there. When I do this, I imagine how it feels to have the sun on my face with a nice breeze wafting by, and there is a cocktail next to me.
I imagine hearing locals chatting or I try to figure out where people are from by their language…just like I would do if I was on any vacation. Except now I am in a foreign land.
Creating Your Vision Board
Before you can do this visualization technique, you of course need to create your vision board. But don’t worry, it’s easier than you might think!
Your vision board is simple a collection of images that represent what you want to manifest in your life.
Create a list of what you want to achieve.
Write down notes about what it would look like and then find images you can print out or cut from magazines to represent them.
For example, if you are focusing on your health:
- Look for photos of a model with a body similar to the one you want
- Find images of healthy food or other lifestyle choices that you want to improve on
- Print off pics of someone doing yoga or another workout.
Put your vision board together with images to represent what you want to achieve in your life, in any order that makes sense to you. You can write encouraging words or print those out as well.
You can also create a collage of photos and put them in a folder on your computer. Open the folder every morning and click each photo to enlarge it and commence to imagining!
Visualization Every Morning
Once your vision board is created, you want to put it on your wall or somewhere close to your morning routine space, so that you can look at it for your visualization practice.
Visualization works simply by seeing and feeling what you want to manifest.
Put yourself into the position of having already achieved your dream. What would it look like? How would your day be? What would you feel in that moment?
For example, if you are trying to manifest your dream car, visualize going to the dealership to test drive it:
- Imagine that you are in the office, filling out the paperwork to drive it.
- You drive off the lot in your brand new car – where do you go first?
- What does the interior smell like?
- How does it feel to sit in it and drive?
- Do you feel the breeze coming through the open windows?
You really want to focus on being in the first person, just like with scripting. And focus as much as you can on how it would feel in that moment.
Affirmations
Believe it or not, you already have affirmations you tell yourself each and every day, without even thinking about it. An affirmation is nothing more than a statement you repeat to yourself, often in your head and deep in your thoughts.
Many of us have negative affirmations that we use over and over. This technique will help you to be aware of that, and be able to change it for the better.
You can use the knowledge of affirmations to think positive thoughts and actually improve your manifesting success.
Choosing Your Affirmations
For the law of attraction, your affirmations should be positive, and often in the present tense.
If you are struggling with self-confidence, you wouldn’t have a affirmation that says “I want to be confident”. Instead, it would be “I am confident”.
This is such a simple shift, but it makes all the difference when it comes to affirmations.
They are written in the same style as scripting, but are just one sentence or phrase. Some examples include:
- I am successful.
- My plans succeed because I take inspired action
- Success and achievement come naturally to me
- Loving others is easy because I love and accept myself
- I live my dream life each and every day.
- Abundance is my birthright
Ways to Use Affirmations
There are a lot of ways to use affirmations not just in the morning, but throughout your day to help you manifest what you want faster.
Our favorite method is to choose an affirmation of the day, and repeat it several times in the morning, and throughout your day.
Memorize a short affirmation, write it down, and try to say it whenever you can.
In Your Journal – Write your affirmations down! It will be easier to remember, and you can repeat the same one in your journal a certain number of times each morning. There are a few different ways to do this, but here are some ideas:
- Write down a list of 3-5 affirmations for the day in a notebook or journal.
- Journal 1 new affirmation every day that you will use throughout your day.
- Create affirmation based on something specific you are trying to manifest.
- Choose 1-3 affirmations and write them at least 10 times each in your journal.
Mirror Affirmations – Another powerful way to use affirmations is to say them to yourself in the mirror. This is done exactly how it sounds; you have an affirmation that you say out loud, to your own reflection in the mirror.
If it helps, write the affirmation down on a sticky note, and put it on your mirror to read to yourself.
Mirror work can be uncomfortable in the beginning, but it is worth it to persevere.
Looking in your own eyes and saying something powerful like “You are worthy of achieving your dream life” can be super cringy. This is especially true if you are not getting much positive feedback in real life.
And that is the best reason for mirror work. If no one else will help you achieve your goals, it is up to you to do it for yourself.
This is an amazing way to start manifesting what you want.
Choose an affirmation based on what you are trying to manifest, in present tense. Like “I am abundant and successful”, and say it to your reflection every time you go into the bathroom and look in the mirror.
Keep Them With You – Don’t be afraid to keep your affirmations with you after you write them down! Get a small notebook or journal filled with affirmations, and read them whenever you get the chance.
Conclusion
Ten years ago, you would never catch me doing any of this manifesting stuff. But when you hit rock bottom, there is no where else to go but up.
I am grateful to have learned so much about manifesting, as I now get random checks in the mail, opportunities for fun trips appear out of nowhere and I always feel hopeful.
The old, depressed me with anxiety and panic attacks is gone.
If I do have something “not positive” happen, it ends up having a really good ending.
I know that I can achieve everything I want in my life, because I have the skills and the know-how to make it happen.
I think children should be taught, that they can achieve anything they want. Because these dreamers are the inventors of tomorrow.
